The founders of Canine Crusaders began saving dogs from the Mahoning County Pound in 1999 after their own dog, LEEBA was lost. They checked the pound DAILY for several years in hopes that someday, she would be found....Sadly, she never was. But as devastating as LEEBA's loss was to them, they managed to turn a tragedy into something positive by helping HUNDREDS of pound dogs find wonderful homes throughout the years. Canine Crusaders was formally established in 2006. We have helped countless injured, sick and stray dogs.
Canine Crusaders was the very first organization to solely dedicate themselves to helping the Mahoning Pound dogs...their first "TRUE FRIENDS"
Canine Crusaders started the Mahoning County Dog Pound's sponsorship program, their Petfinder Website & the volunteer dog walking group in 2006.
After 13+ years of faithful dedication to the Mahoning Pound & the hardships that came along with it, sadly, we were forced to move on.
We are proud to say that since we offered our hand of help to the Mahoning County Dog Pound in 1999, CANINE CRUSADERS brought the euthanasia rate down from approximately 80% to under 20% by 2009!
CANINE CRUSADERS mission will soon be changing from a rescue to an organization that helps raise funds for rescues and shelters that would greatly benefit from monetary donations. We still have several dogs in our care that are special needs and hard to adopt or unadoptable. They will always have a sanctuary with us and loved for the rest of their days in if not adopted.
There are always fees incurred with caring for our remaining dogs, so Please consider making a tax-deductible donation towards medical care, food and boarding expenses. Any and all remaining proceeds will benefit other rescue organizations!
Confusion in your eyes -
I know it's hard to understand
That someone heard your cries.
When loneliness is all you know
And pain is all you feel
And no one can be trusted,
And hunger's all too real...
That's the time the Lord sees you
And lets you know He's there
That's when He sends His messengers
The hearts that love and care.
Yes, rescuers are angels
You cannot see their wings,
They keep them neatly folded
As they do their caring things.
The medicine to make you well
Good food to make you strong,
And finally to help you learn
That hugs are never wrong.
The perfect place then must be found
The home where you can live
Secure and safe and happy
With joy to get and give.
When you reach your Forever Home,
Your place to feel whole,
The Angels smile, and off they go
To save another soul.
